More about Peter Jacob
Raised in Union, New Jersey, in an Indian-American family, Peter Jacob understands how important a safe and caring community is for success. After attending Union County College, he continued undergraduate studies in Sociology at Kean University.  Soon after, Peter studied at Washington University in St. Louis, earning a Master of Social Work from the top-ranked program in the nation.

During his undergraduate and graduate years, Peter was a student activist and leader. He worked with the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW), the YWCA, and the International Institute.

Through these and other community organizations, Peter helped fight the ongoing scourges of child abuse, human trafficking, and the disastrous Iraq War.

Peter Jacob currently is a Licensed Social Worker in New Jersey.  Peter served as a community organizer at the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless addressing homelessness in Union County and as a Program Manager at SERV Behavioral Health.  He also serves as VP of Sales at his family’s small business.  Most recently, Peter is notable for having been the Democratic Party nominee for U.S. Congress CD-7 receiving 43% of the vote in the 2016 General Election.  Peter was endorsed by Our Revolution in 2016, and in 2017 is endorsed by the progressive organizations Justice Democrats and Brand New Congress.  He is once again leading the charge for Sander’s Our Revolution in New Jersey, while campaigning in 2018. His People’s Platform is listed on www.jacob2018.com/issues

Election: Primary, Tues., Jun. 5, 2018; General Election, Tues., Nov. 6, 2018

More about Jim Keady:
Raised in Belmar, New Jersey, Jim runs his family business, which has been a fixture in NJ for over 35 years.  As a single dad, he understands the plight of working families and places himself squarely in the middle class.

In 1997, as assistant soccer coach at St. John's University in New York, Jim took up the plight of sweatshop workers, who bore insufferable conditions at the hand of his team's corporate sponsor. He was given an ultimatum to either wear the Nike name or resign.

He resigned, and moved to Indonesia to experience firsthand what those workers endured on a daily basis. He returned home months later, twenty-five pounds lighter and proud to have made some real changes in the lives of those he championed.

When Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey shore, Jim dropped everything and organized cleanup crews all over town.  He listened to the concerns and fears of his neighbors, and has been advocating for them ever since.  Protesting the lack of distribution of FEMA money to desperate families at a local town hall, he was told by then-Governor Christie to “sit down and shut up!” He didn't, and as a result, more money flowed to help families rebuild.

Jim is a grassroots activist, who is not afraid to get his hands dirty. When the refugee crisis exploded in Europe in 2015, Jim was waist-deep in the Aegean Sea, helping Syrian refugees get safely to shore and settled in camps.  Similarly, he lead a team to Puerto Rico after the recent hurricane to help victims who had lost their homes, and were living without food, electricity or water.

He has walked on picket lines with striking workers and outside government offices, and in solidarity with women for issues like equal pay and ensuring a woman's right to choose. Jim promises to continue the fight for those without a voice, and supports all the goals of the People's Platform, especially campaign finance reform, healthcare for all and environmental protection.
